Within the fashion industry, we have largely been lead to believe that using recyclable materials is the best way to be sustainable, in an effort to reduce waste. For example, processes including using recycling plastic bottles to create polyester which, in turn, helps to reduce emissions at the point of burning in landfill. However, there is a concern that too often items using recyclable materials lack durability, leading to short lifetimes and quick waste once it reaches its perceived end life, or once it goes out of trend.
